I am thinking of going full HERMIT for awhile.

"Hey, you should blog more, that'll give you more free time to write.  I don't see you anymore unless I schlep over to FB."

LET ME EXPLAIN: my #WriterFriendlySolution TO FIND THE TIME TO BLOG
#DontKnowWhenIWillBeBack
#MyBooksNeedMeMore

See, I have this plan.  Admittedly, its all of my own making.  And yes, that makes it my fault.  I take responsibility for my actions and yes I own this, my life.  I choose my boundaries, in fact I make life changing decisions everyday.  Their validity isn't always open for discussion unless it's a definite game changer [ BETA READERS ROCK].

No one person understands it but they hear me reference it all the time, this PLAN.  Yes, I am the boss but understand, I have muse[S], so I am not always really in charge LIKE YOU THINK.  And there is nothing wrong with me loving these muses just because you can't understand them or their ways.   Trust me, they have never left me alone to my own devices while they go off into the world to live their lives.  Oh no, they are content to see if they can drive me to madness with their never ending demands for attention. [Bwahahha, I thought I would be lonely. NOT!]

*Life enters - stage left*

LIFE, goes into these tantrums where you're forced to be at odds with what you want to do which is be pulled along by your heart to embrace your dream with the total focus of a child at play, where time stands still and your only limit is your imagination.  [Life likes attention ,too.]Over the past few years, hours and hours spent doing my thing only spoils me for more.  Decades spent caring for and nurturing others, young and old, means Now is really the time for me.

I have raised my children to raise their own and feel satisfied [code for AMAZINGLY PROUD] with the result of my efforts.  They have a somewhat skewed understanding of me, the writer.  The mom they would find working away in the wee hours of the morn, distracted and blurry eyed.  If the coffee pot was empty they searched me out feeling anxious that something wasn't right if I was not in the kitchen bathrobed and embracing my brew.  Painting, drawing or scribbling away, even just staring blankly at a screen, it was their norm. I never put it before them and I am sure the pristine sport uniforms made them think I had been up all night making sure they would look good on the fields of their choice.  Looking back, all those late nights and early mornings just prepared them for the real me.   The moment of reckoning came when they read my first published book that wasn't a children's book for them.
The look of 'I always wondered and now I know' is a priceless thing to behold.

One seemed to figure it out early, even though he kept the secret.  There toward the 'end', [EMPTY NEST SURVIVAL,  another post for sure] he was the one who put sandwiches on my desk and when he had to wake me from a binge induced coma, it was always with a cup of coffee.  Then the period of unsupervision began and I bounced off the walls with story boards, no wall in any room of my home was safe from plotting and scheming and diagrams and graphics and social medi-

*loud needle scratching on a vynal record sound*

The present hits my desk with a thud.
My phone is ringing faintly from somewhere in the house.  A loud knocking begins on the sliding glass door sprinkled with muffled expletatives.
I embrace the situation with my usual positive snark for being ripped back into reality.

"Ring a damn ding ding, knock knock knock.... who the hell can't read today?"

Frustrated that my sign on the door has lost its power, I cringe the mother of all cringes.

It could be an adult child or friend so I feel a little guilty.  It could be my 'crazy neighbor friend'. [that's a whole other post]  So, I open the blind anyway.  You know, I am really shocked when life just barges up to the door like this.

I hold up one finger in a universal sign and dash to my office knowing I have no real knowledge of the time or date.  That is the truth of the level that my creative binds me.  Leaving me the only surety, at times, of it being daylight or dark.

Yes, I am not beyond refusing entrance to someone who impedes my creative process.  My characters need me, otherwise the warrior angels will be torturing poor hapless victims or the homeless will be dressed in finery and dining in a haunted victorian mansion.  I have characters to kill, worlds to build, demons to slay, dragons to dance with, edits to make, files to format and on any given day I am doing battle, creating havoc for distraction or embracing research-

There it is, scrawled across the schedule page I didn't turn to:
 SHOPPING FOR _________.

I make a note: CANCEL EVERYTHING THRU JUNE
I rip out the offending pages through JULY 1st and pin them to the board, just to be sure.

I am going full HERMIT for awhile.
I will post the sign first, WHILE getting estimates.  For those who ignore it in the beginning, it shall be a rude awakening.  Once I am forced to call a contractor for the installation, things should get pretty hot around here.

Electrifying the fence and gate are seen as a plausible preventative measure and a very

Growing up, we all had imaginary friends, but James’s pals are so awesome that one can easily believe they are real. It all begins with a beautiful and unusual cloud that seemed to be stuck in place. As James daydreams about its mysterious beauty, he is launched on an unexpected adventure in the company of his imaginary friends. As they try to discover the meaning of the cloud, they end up becoming key players in a battle in which rivals fight to take control. From flying on a blue dragon’s back to their eager search for a lost key that opens a spell book, James and his friends have a day packed with suspense and drama. However, they still manage to get him home by dinnertime so he can tell his family all about it. Amongst the Clouds by Wendy Nystrom is an awesome book that young and old will enjoy.

In Amongst the Clouds, author Wendy Nystrom does a brilliant job of describing how high a child’s imagination can actually fly. The main protagonist dozes off and ends up in the middle of a lucid dream that teaches him a number of valuable lessons about the importance of loyalty. The story is well written and contains a lot of characters with which kids can easily identify. At the same time, Wendy Nystrom shares a little bit of Icelandic culture with the reader, enabling him or her to easily grasp the context of the adventure. The language is vibrant and appropriate for children, and the book includes many illustrations that add to the mental image so aptly formed by her words.

My name is Lacy McAdams and I am a Death Viewer, an agent of the highly trained Homicide Viewing Squad, otherwise known as the Death Squad. When a person dies suspiciously, I get called in to view their death. Actually, I get to rewind their memories up to 12 hours before their death.

You'd think that would make solving murders a no-brainer, but there's a catch. When people are about to be murdered, they get that whole "life flashing before their eyes" thing going on, and suddenly what really happened is mixed with what they remember from their twelfth birthday party.

In other words, a dying person's mind is a jumble of reality vs memory. It takes training, experience, and a lot of trial and error to get things right. I've been at it for quite a few years, learned a lot, and I have a natural talent for filtering out the realities from the memories.

It's a good thing, because the most important case of my life just landed in my lap while I was at dinner with Brad. It was our third date and judging by how fast he took off, not to mention leaving me with the bill, I'd say he wasn't too thrilled to be dating a Death Viewer. Maybe I should have mentioned that on the first date?

Chances were good that I would never see Brad again, but the case that I got called in for was one that could make or break Homicide Viewing Squads nationwide. No pressure or anything...

This review is from:

Calls Of The Untamed: Dearhart Clan Series, the complete series with never released Book #4 Time To Call Wolf (Kindle Edition)

Author Eri Nelson locks the reader away in the sultry Were World she has created and with finesse she unfurls the inner primal needs of her characters.  Secret government operations intent on using them as weapons then forcing them to be self-contained after a scientific based exodus, for decades they strive to survive and stay hidden from an unwitting human populace.  There is no choice in the solitary life within the clan and females are rare. The threat from their own kind, a vengeful rogue from the past of the pack's leader and a dastardly shapeshifter are added to the mix as the hope for the continuation of their species is jerked away when Owen's mate, Kristen, is taken hostage.  Caged behind silver bars to be used as bait for a forced confrontation between the rogue operative and the leader of the pack, a dance begins for survival at its basest level.

The soul of a Were longs for its mate and time will only serve those fated to find one with love being the ease to their pain.  Imprinted, they can not deny their mate or control the overwhelming desires, giving them no choice in the primal couplings intended to save their dwindling race.  Creatures of duality with feelings, both wolf and human, they are vicious defenders of their species.  The details of the pain they must endure and  physical changes when unfurling is 'hair raising' to say the very least.

Unorthodox?  Yes and that is a good thing.  Nelson gives the reader a World of the Were, filled with fast paced twists and turns, free of inhibitions from a breathtaking view.

I have been tagged. Shocker, right?

What am I working on?
This is a very loaded question, so here goes….

WRITING:
After I killed my third laptop, (I bring this up because my tech guy has me standing in the corner for the way I work.  I do not like the restrictions but so far my current laptop is still functioning.=0)  I am working on the print editions of No Harm to Charm, Test of Faith and She Becomes You; which are currently available in eBook formats.  Loss of the five books that were ready to publish last summer means I am doing re-writes on: See the Light, Yes Dear, She Loves You to Death and two from a new series of spookies and shorts: Tales from the Tomes.  I have been blessed to be a co-author on another project with a dear lady friend, Paula Trujillo.  The working title is: The Last Road Trip.  It’s a story that is sure to touch the reader’s heart and is filled with real life hilarity.  If we can stop laughing long enough to get some work done, we will be sure to publish this one.

COVERS:
I do a lot of the conceptual work and plan to use some of my own creations but my favorites are the ones by other graphic artists.  Having a connection with another creative that produces a work of art that I have envisioned, simply inspires me!

Wicked Book Cover Designs by Char, who is also an Indie author, did an amazing job for my Sanctuary Saga covers.  Her ability to put my choice of elements together proves she has a unique vision into the mind of ‘the OG’.

See the Light: Book 3 of the Sanctuary Saga (And yes, that is Jimmy Thomas on the Harley)

You can see Char’s diverse talent as she switched it up for my foray into writing a psych thriller

Gloria Thompson did the cover for my ‘psych thriller’ sequel and she literally left me speechless with this one.   (definitely video worthy)

And bless if Gloria didn’t turn my nightmare into a cover with this spooky for Tales from the Tomes.

Candace Bowser, author and artist, offers a well of inspiration when the kindred spirit hits.  You can find her at Dark Water Arts.  She also writes under her pseudonym, Hardgrove Perth.

Kristen Faith ~ Youth Warrior ~ Sanctuary Saga

Erin Aurora ~ Youth Warrior ~ Sanctuary Saga

Her latest inspirational graphic had a book file and some 7000+ words shortly after I received it!

EDITING/FORMATTING:
I have been graced with the task of helping another author in preparing to take the plunge into the swirl of self-publishing.  I am really, excited about this project as the first book gets closer to being published, (book 2, ROGUE is already in the works) and the fun of promoting it will begin.  Go and offer up some Indie support for Darcee VanMullekom and because we all know the ‘stage fright’ experienced when you are down to hovering over the ‘publish’ button, go like her page on FB: Myth of the Raven, RAVENOUS, book one  which has a tentative release date for this Fall.  Candace Bowser did a magnificent job on the cover!
“Considered to be the harbinger of both good and evil this infamous creature has a plethora of lore surrounding it.  Playing a prominent role in many myths and legends, the raven has captured the imaginations of many.  Yet, its greatest myth has yet to be told.”
~Hanna

RESEARCH
I am always doing research.  My search history is probably illegal at best and there is no doubt I am on watch list somewhere.  Bwahahahaha ‘undetectable poisons to the strength of human skin’ and a boat load of in-betweens.

VIDEOS, REVEALS AND TRAILERS:
I love them.  I am constantly gathering content.  I can get lost for hours playing with them.  Currently, I have added a new member to my team and his custom sounds are the best. He has some really cool professional programs for video editing!  Charlie Carroll is a student at Full Sail University, and is working toward his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Production.  He is a gifted composer and his music inspires me to reach further and higher.  You can find his works on SoundCloud.  Here is a video we made last year with his custom sound: FEEL GOOD FRIDAY 5.O music: Flowing ~ Charlie Carroll

How does my work differ from others in my genre?
Even though my writing has been compared to that of other authors who write in a specific genre, and admittedly it makes me smile, I believe my works differ because I may or may not start out within the confines of a genre.  I tend to cross the traditional lines that separate in search of a character, a situation or a twist.  I have refused to color inside the lines since  I was a child and honestly, why should I start that now?  Just like when I mix mediums in my visual art: pencil and watercolor; charcoal and pastels… these mixtures give a depth to my work, a unique texture AND I strive to have that in my writing also.

Why do I write what I do?
I live to write and write to live.  My children’s stories were for my children and now my grandchildren.  Everything after that is for me and of course the readers.  I love to create and entertain.  I spent many years locking my muse away to accommodate caring for others and now that I have the freedom to let her run free, well, you get the idea.  I no longer do the ‘40 hour day’ gig, but all in all, I LOVE BEING A WRITER.  The one true dream of this writer can be defined by this: "I want my works to be famous, not myself, so that it may survive me."
Imagining, years after I am gone, that someone’s heart is touched; a reader is brought to tears, rolls with laughter or stops reading because I have scared them with a story…. Just the thought gives me purpose, keeps the coffee brewing, and fuels my muse.

How does my writing process work?
1 part muse/ 2 parts determination/ shake gently
Anything can set my muse off.  A look in a person’s eye, a smell, a sound, a conversation overheard, a tone of voice, music, even a printed fabric; a curtain billowing in the breeze from an open window, the tinkle of ice cubes being dropped in a glass.  So, it all begins with the observations of life going on around me.  I use story boards, timelines to avoid plot glitches and listening to music to set the mood for whatever I am working on.  I have written the ending first and I have started with building a single character then let the plot unfold.  I use cover art as inspiration as well.  Sometimes it is just various scenes flashing through my imagination that I make notes of and go back to later.  I keep a notepad on the nightstand for those middle of the night epiphanies and ALWAYS WRITE IT DOWN when it hits, otherwise it might take months for it to return.  The foundation of my process would be making notes.  I am the proverbial absent-minded professor when it comes to this.  If ever I find myself without a notebook and the muse strikes, I have been known to use the back of receipts, napkins and even the edge of a newspaper.  I file these snippets away for later reference and woe be unto the person who might try to toss away these precious items.

Just last week I pitched a fit when my daughter tried to toss out a torn apart drink cup while I pumped fuel.  It had notes of a torture scene re-write, complete with dialogue, WRITTEN while I waited in the parking lot of a local grocery store with a van full of grandchildren.  Somehow, that doesn’t seem right but I am sure there are odder things I could have been doing.  ‘Mom’ got a lecture from the ‘wee one triad’ ‘bout not touching Grandy’s notes.  I drove away with a smile knowing I had added something to their being raised right.
As the two year old said:

Hmmmmmm, now who to tag?

What am I working on?
Okay, I guess the best place to start is with my almost finished project, The Lightwalker. It took a year to get to this point, but the third installment of The Sword and the Flame series is currently with my beta readers to hammer out any inconsistencies, plot holes, or stupid moments I may have had before heading in for edits.
The story picks up four years after the events in The Purging with the character dealing with their current situations when whispers of a Darkness rising pulls them into another adventure. Where the first two novels had a coming of age theme, The Lightwalker and the fourth book, The Dragonmaster, will have a growing up and maturing theme. At least that’s my hope. As always, the readers will decide the theme as they see fit, so who am I to argue?
As I hinted at, I’m currently writing The Dragonmaster. It’s an interesting challenge, as it’s the first time I have so much material from The Lightwalker I felt would be better served in this book. I have roughly 40k words to rewrite for the beginning of The Dragonmaster so it’s interesting. Sorry, but I’m not sure how to explain it further than that. I’m sure others could word it better than I can, so I’ll have to pass on that for the moment.
The Dragonmaster will pick up right after the events of The Lightwalker and the characters will… well… I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m also bouncing between a couple of other projects. One is a western I started about three or four years ago but never finished and the other is a collection of horror short stories for a second Skeleton Key collection. Each story is inspired by a different Metallica song so we’ll have to see how it goes with that as I keep getting stuck. lol
How does my work differ from others in my genre?
I know I ask this question a lot, and answer it, but I have to be honest in that I hate it. lol I’m sure others do this as well, but I try to take cliches and turn them on their ear. There’s something about making someone feel comfortable before jabbing them with a cattle-prod I find entertaining.
Why do I write what I do?
As a child, I loved to read and escape into other worlds where I could be the hero. It’s something that helped me cope with the joys of being picked on in school or by my friends. As long as I had a world to step into, their taunts didn’t bother me as much as they probably hoped it would. Because of that, I’m a firm believer in the power of escapism and I want to give others a chance to forget their troubles for an hour or so here and there.
There’s something special about fantasy, horror, and science fiction that is freeing. despite their popularity, these genres tend to be largely ignored like they’re the red-headed stepchild locked in the basement by many. It helps engender a feeling of community among the authors and readers. Plus, they’re fun to read and share our thoughts on particular topics in a mostly relaxed forum if we choose to. To me, they’re the best to read as any message usually isn’t preachy or heavy-handed.
Also, humbly I say this, I write stories I want to read. No matter how great another writer was or will be, I’m the only one that can tell my stories my way. I believe each of us have a voice and how we express it is up to us. Some prefer others to tell it, while those like myself want to give life to it ourselves.
How does my writing process work?
How does with a great deal of pain and agitation sound? Just kidding. It’s not like that for me (The headaches come from our fur babies when they refuse to leave me alone).
I usually sign online when I wake up to do any networking or other tasks so I can focus on what i need to do for the day. After that’s done I break out the pen and paper. Yep, you heard that right. In this day and age of computers and voice recognition software, I go old school.
Writing by hand gives me a certain focus I don’t have when using the computer. It’s harder to skip down half a page to work on another idea without confusing the crap out of myself, so I have to focus my thoughts before getting started. Once I finish, I start transcribing the ream of paper onto the computer. As sad as it sounds, I only type about five pages an hour. I blame my handwriting. Even my printing is horrible.
Of course, I can’t forget about having music playing. While I prefer crypt-like quiet, I love when I find music that brings the story to life in my mind. It’s like I’m watching a movie play out. Each of my books have been written to different cds. It’s amazing how no two books work with the same music. Or am I just being weird? Oh well. I can live with that.
Well, that’s it in a nutshell. Thank you all for taking the time to read my ramblings. As I’m sure you noticed, I tend to be one of those complicated individuals that refuse to be categorized and drive people crazy so I hope I’ve offered something of worth you can use or found interesting.
Now to tag a few authors to answer the same questions. Let’s see… who’s that hiding in the back… AHA! Got ya!
Michelle Cornwell-Jordan, OG Tomes, and Shay West. Ladies, come on down. The floor is yours.

Dark Days Remy Broulette by Hargrove Perth <> Nationwide Release Ink Smith Publishing <> June 26, 2014

The constitution of a man is not always dictated by the life he has led but sometimes by the circumstances of fate. Such is the life of Remy Broulette.  When an unforeseen tragedy strikes, Remy willingly joins the world of the French Nzumbe under the watchful eye of the Voudon Queen who created him.  Yet as time passes, all is not as it seems, and Remy must fight the demons living within as the wanton lust for souls consumes him. When the young Revel DeMarquis arrives from France, Remy is presented with the opportunity to begin his life anew, however the past continues to haunt him.  As Remy's life becomes filled with the uncontrollable lust of his immortality, Revel becomes desperate to save not only his beloved friend but also those who fall at Remy's hand.

Interview with the Author:

Hargrove Perth

1. What was the driving force behind your current novel?
Dark Days Remy Broulette is centered around the Creole Voudoun Queens of early New Orleans at the time of the city’s founding. I have a fascination with the traditional style Creole/Haitian zombies who are born of magic and are not the flesh eating kind. New Orleans, at his hayday, was the perfect backdrop with the famous Madame Marie Laveau being one of the featured characters. She is the prime example of what a flamboyant, eccentric Voudoun Queen should be! All of my novels which feature immortals are unique in their creation. I wanted to create a new brand of immortal, one not seen in print prior to now, and thought that immortals created by Voudoun who existed on souls to survive would be a fantastic novel and that is how it all began. Dark Days Remy Broulette will be taking the literary world by storm on June 26th 2014 through my new publisher Ink Smith Publishing!

2. What personality traits do you most admire in other authors?
Perseverance and having a thick skin are two traits I admire greatly. There can be so many nay-sayers out there – people who just have nothing good to say or take some type of perverse enjoyment out of taking some one’s dream and attempting to crush it. I call them trolls, personally, because they have nothing better to do than ‘troll’ the book world and find authors they can target. A lot of times I have seen it happen and it has crushed the writer beyond belief – so having a thick skin and wanting to get on with writing despite being targeted is something to be admired.

3. If you could offer a word of advice to an aspiring author who wants to venture down the road of self-publishing what would you tell them?
Words of advice…well, don’t take criticism to heart, remember it is only an opinion and every one has one. Don’t think you are going to become this over-night sensation because that just does not happen. You will work your tail off to be a success and don’t expect success to come if you are not willing to put your blood, sweat, and tears into every book you write. How much you put into the publishing and promotion of a book is exactly what you will get out of it. Unless you can afford to pay some company to represent you, no one is going to do the promotion part for you. There are a lot of avenues out there you can utilize which are free – like twitter and FB but remember to have a human side to it too! Don’t just post about books and what you are writing. Readers want to learn about you and who you are – that is just as important!

4. Do you find inspiration in the works of other authors? If so, who and why…
I do find inspiration in others, not only the classical writers of yesteryear but also in the modern self-published authors who have found their voice and are not afraid to use it.

5. How would you describe the method behind your writing?
Honestly, my writing style is so chaotic it is difficult to describe. I have been known to write the end of a book before the middle is even touched. Sometimes I know the premise but don’t know where I want to take it and when that happens, I let the characters write the story. It usually works out the best that way.
